The mountain slopes in Liberec District offer ski lifts and cross-country skiing trails; conditions for hiking and cycling are also available. The terrain ranges from 208 meters in the north to 1,124 meters at Smrk, the highest mountain in the Jizera Mountains. This mountain is also the highest mountain in the Czech part of the Jizera Mountains; its first observation tower was built in 1892.

Nature and landscape
Liberec District includes the Čertova zeď national nature monument and the Rašeliniště Jizery, Jezevčí vrch, Karlovské bučiny and Jizerskohorské bučiny national nature reserves. Jizerskohorské bučiny is listed as a UNESCO natural heritage site.
The nature trail in the Vesec Valley runs for approximately two kilometers around the Vesec Pond and provides information on wetland habitats and rare or endangered species on seven information panels. Vesec Pond, also locally known as Tajch, is used for swimming and walking; its beach is freely accessible.
The waterfall system of the Great Štolpich plunges in cascades 30 meters down a rock face.
Culture and history
In the Českodubsko area, preserved folk architecture is combined with Sychrov Chateau. In the Hrádek area, the Kristýna recreation center is combined with the nearby Grabštejn Castle. The Frýdlantský výběžek area is associated with Frýdlant Castle and Chateau.
Grabštejn Castle was built in the second half of the 13th century as a border fortress to guard a trade route from Bohemia to Lusatia. Visitors can climb the former keep and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape from there. The Chapel of St. Barbara features wall paintings covering its entire surface. The castle offers two sightseeing tours and experience-oriented tours for children.
Frýdlant is home to the oldest castle museum in Central Europe, which opened in 1801. It displays a collection of weapons from the Thirty Years' War and an armory.
Lemberk features Baroque stucco decorations, Zdislava's Room, a knights' hall, a Black Kitchen and a coffered ceiling from 1610.
The Neo-Gothic Sychrov Chateau served as a residence for the French Rohan family and preserves original furnishings as well as extensive wood carvings. It is open to the public year-round and offers children's tours in July and August. Cultural events, concerts and exhibitions take place there throughout the year.
Routes
The route “From Lidové sady to Ruprechtice, or a bit of forest and a bit of city” is an easy, four-kilometer path through the Jizera Mountains. It passes the forest swimming pool and the U Obrázku church. From the center of Liberec, it can be reached by tram 2 or 3; it can be completed by bus 25.
