Nature and Landscape

The nearby Čertova zeď between Český Dub and Osečná is a national nature monument and protects a horizontally layered basalt dyke several kilometres long. Činkův kopec offers views of Janův Důl, Osečná, and Ralsko in the distance.

Trails and Regional Destinations

Several hiking trails and marked paths lead through Janův Důl and its surroundings. Near the source of the Ploučnice is the K pramenům nature trail; a red-marked hiking trail leads to the source of the Ploučnice, and the source is considered the starting point of the Ploučnice cycle route. The nearby Jenišovský rybník pond lies directly at this source and is used for fishing.

In the wider regional area, Ještěd is considered a destination for trips from Janův Důl; it can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car, or by cable car.

Culture and Local Sights

The Chapel of Saint John of Nepomuk in the grounds of Camping 2000 was recently renovated and dates from 1796. The Svatojánská pouť pilgrimage is celebrated at the chapel annually toward the end of June; it also serves as a venue for social events.

In the lower part of Janův Důl, a memorial cross stands in front of house no. 20. In Zadní Ves, a stone wayside shrine dedicated to the Virgin Mary stands beside a path and is known as “U obrázku.”
