Nature

The landscape of the Jizera Mountains includes extensive mixed forests dominated by beech trees, as well as rock formations, rock towers and rocky viewpoints. There are also remnants of mountain spruce forests.

In the surrounding area, Mariánská hora, Pustina and Černá Studnice are each listed approximately as mountains. In the wider surroundings, Maršovicky vrch is approximately listed as a mountain.

Suché skály is a protected national natural monument with approximately 20 rock towers.

Getting around

The cog railway Zubačka connects Tanvald, Kořenov and Harrachov on the steepest railway line in the Czech Republic. During historic rides, visitors can travel on the Zubačka in a historic cog locomotive.

Vranov-Pantheon can be reached on foot from Malá Skála via a red-marked trail. Seasonal tourist buses connect Bedřichov with Janov, Hrabětice, Jablonec nad Nisou, Josefův Důl, Albrechtice, Desná and Tanvald.

The Císařský kámen cycling route runs from Jablonec nad Nisou via Rádlo and Milíře to the Imperial Stone lookout tower. The route “Bike through the Nisanka lookout tower to the spring of Nisa” includes the Nisanka Lookout Tower and the Lusatian Nisa Spring.

At Kozí farma Pěnčín, there are information panels about the local animal and plant life, a barefoot trail and an excursion railway that makes a round trip around the farm grounds.

Culture

The Cog Railway Museum in Kořenov presents the history of the Zubačka and the surrounding railways. The Cestou jizerskohorských sklářů educational trail connects the Glass Museum in Jablonec with Kristiánov.

The Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou brings together glass and jewellery collections in one institution. This museum’s “Čarovná zahrada” exhibition presents Czech glass from seven centuries.

The Beadgame Museum displays pressing, grinding and cutting machines, tools for bead finishing and threading machines. Beadgame produces pressed and cut glass beads from glass rods and semi-finished glass pieces; its history in Pěnčín dates back to 1948.

Pěnčín has also preserved a local tradition of glass-pressing workshops known as drikety. In Frýdštejn, some rooms in the castle core were carved directly out of sandstone blocks.

In the wider regional area, Zámek Sychrov and Zamek Gryf are each approximately listed as castles; Valdštejn is approximately listed there as a church.
