Nature
The Tanvaldský Špičák lookout tower can be reached on foot via marked hiking trails from Tanvald, Dolní Smržovka, Albrechtice or Jiřetín pod Bukovou. The Fanterova skála rock viewpoint on Tanvaldský Špičák was opened to visitors in 1889. The Tanvaldský Špičák bike park has around 12 kilometres of single-track, unpaved terrain trails leading from the summit of the mountain to the valley station of the cable car.
Hikes
The “Za jizerskohorským duchem Muhu” hike begins in Tanvald and leads via Terezínka and Černá Studnice. The “Kolem Tanvaldu” hike is a circular route from the stop in Tanvald via the Špičák saddle, Desná, Světlá, Šulíkova skála and Svárov back to the Tanvald stop.
Views
Terezínka is a masonry viewpoint with stairs on the slope of Muchov Mountain. Terezínka can be easily reached from Tanvald via a red-marked hiking trail. The “Kolem Terezínky” excursion leads to places offering views of Tanvald, the Jizera Mountains and the Bohemian Paradise.
History and Culture
In 1853, Johann Mayer had the 15-metre-high rock of Terezínka fitted with a masonry viewpoint and a railing. The Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov cog railway has been in operation since 1902 and is considered the steepest railway in the Czech Republic. The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi in the Šumburk district of Tanvald is a protected cultural monument; its foundation stone was laid in 1899, and its ceremonial consecration took place on 15 August 1901.
