The Suché skály rock formations are protected as a national nature monument. They comprise around 20 rock towers, including Hlavní and Sokolí; climbing there is suitable for both experienced climbers and complete beginners.
Geographical setting
The Maršovicky vrch, Černá Studnice and Pustina mountains are located in the vicinity of Malá Skála. Mariánská hora is located in the wider regional surroundings of Malá Skála. The Zahrádka viewpoint rises 60 m above the river.
Trails and transport
Vranov can be reached on foot from Malá Skála via a 1.5 km-long red-marked hiking trail; cars must be left in Malá Skála. Tourist bus route 342 connects Turnov, Malá Skála and Jablonec nad Nisou, provides connections to the railway and allows bicycles to be carried on selected seasonal services.
Culture and history
The Síň tří císařů has been preserved in the grounds of Vranov-Pantheon Castle; it commemorates the victory of the allied forces over Napoleon in the Battle of the Nations at Leipzig in 1813. The Boučkův statek farmstead in Vranové is an example of the timbered folk architecture of the Pojizerí region from 1813; it houses a restaurant as well as museum and gallery exhibitions. The Kaple sv. Vavřince chapel features an altar by Vladimír Komárek, Stations of the Cross by Josef Jíra and a glass nativity scene by M. Baudysová. The Lesní hřbitov is a Classicist estate cemetery established in 1813 by the then landowner František Zachariáš Römisch. The Valdštejn church is also located in the vicinity of Malá Skála.
Further activities
On the Jizera, a paddling trip from Malá Skála to Dolánky covers 9 kilometres and takes approximately 2 to 3 hours.
