The Valašsko region has a pastoral tradition that evolved from extensive goat farming to sheep farming. Until the early 19th century, it also had a high-quality tradition of linen production, which supported local livelihoods.
Pustevny features a distinctive ensemble of wooden buildings in the folk style. Libušín and Maměnka are among the best-known cottages there. At Vsetín Castle, the permanent exhibition “Living Memory of the Region” presents the history and traditions of Wallachia. The castle also includes a Templar cellar with a playroom for knights. The natural history exhibition in the tower includes the Bečva River aquarium with live fish. Traditional museum events are also held at Vsetín Castle.
The Museum of the Wallachian Region manages extensive ethnographic, historical, and art collections. Its programs cover folk customs, children's games, lessons in the old-fashioned school, agriculture, sheep farming, and crafts.
