If you would like to book a hotel for your stay in Benešov District, choosing accommodation is a separate step alongside selecting individual places to visit.
History
Konopiště was initially founded as a Gothic fortress, transformed into a Baroque residence, and later rebuilt by Franz Ferdinand d’Este. Today, four guided tours lead through interiors containing rare art collections. The armory displays melee weapons, firearms, powder flasks, cannons, and a Renaissance shield.
Above the Sázava River, Český Šternberk is a destination for canoeists and hikers. The former bastion known as the “Hunger Tower” serves as a lookout over the Posázaví landscape.
Culture
The park surrounding Konopiště has several nature trails and is open year-round. The Asian black bear Jiří lives in the moat at Konopiště.
At Vlašim Park, seasonal tours may also include the otherwise inaccessible interiors of the Chinese Pavilion or the Old Castle. The Podblanicko Museum was founded by the Central Bohemian Region for the Benešov District and moved to Vlašim Castle in 1988. It preserves more than 49,000 objects relating to the social and natural history of the region; the castle also hosts exhibitions about noble families, weapons, and local history.
On the grounds of Vlašim Castle, U Blanických rytířů serves Czech cuisine, homemade desserts, regional beer, and homemade lemonade.
In Hulice, Bee World offers an interactive exhibition in a giant beehive, featuring a touchscreen about bee anatomy and displays explaining honey production. Honey, propolis, and wax products are also available, including honey sweets, candles, and cosmetics.
Nature
The Blaník Protected Landscape Area combines beech forests, fields, picturesque villages, and small chapels. Nearby is the Podlesí Nature Reserve near Býkovice, with peat meadows where rare plant and animal species occur.
Čerčanský chlum is a 530-meter-high hill in the Benešov Highlands and a destination for hiking trips and sports. Vlašim ParaZOO provides refuge for animals that cannot return to the wild.
Water House showcases the Švihov Reservoir, including the submerged village of Dolní Kralovice.
