Culture and History
The Kremnica Mint opens its original and new minting facilities to tourists. At the Andrej adit, visitors can experience the atmosphere of underground mining first-hand.
The Meštiansky dom in Kremnica presents 138 painted shooting targets from 1837 to 1896. The 22-metre-high Trinity Column commemorates a plague epidemic.
The Mestský hrad castle complex in Kremnica is a national cultural monument. It comprises buildings from the 14th and 15th centuries protected by a double fortification.
Nature
Ihráčske kamenné more, Jastrabská skala and Vyhniansky travertín are protected natural monuments in the Žiar nad Hronom District. Protected animal species in the district include the Eurasian lynx and the brown bear.
Kremnický Štós is a 187,700 m² nature reserve established in 1953. It protects volcanic landforms as well as succession stages of mosses and lichens on rocky ground.
Trails and Excursions
The Zelená Cesta educational trail begins in a park in Kremnica, leads towards Skalka and has its first stop at Vejmutovský porast. It is 8.9 km long, has eight stations, takes about four hours and includes a large and a small loop.
Šášov Castle can be reached from the village of Šášovské Podhradie via green-marked hiking trails in about 15 minutes on foot.
The ruins of Teplica Castle can be reached from Sklené Teplice via a yellow-marked trail. After a steeper climb, this joins a green-marked trail leading to the castle. The hiking route is 4.7 km long, takes about two hours and is of medium difficulty.

Vodný raj Vyhne is a thermal bath in the Žiar nad Hronom District that is open year-round. It uses therapeutic thermal water with a high iron content and a temperature of up to 36.5 °C. Facilities include a swimming pool, a multipurpose pool, a children's pool, a relaxation pool and a water slide.
Getting There and Regional Context
The Bratislava–Zvolen railway line runs through Žiar nad Hronom. The Pohronská hradná cesta runs along the Hron River from Hronský Beňadik to Zvolen.
