Lúčky: Historic Villagescape and Mountain Landscape

Historic miners’ houses with characteristic arcades have been preserved in Lúčky.

Location and Landscape

Lúčky lies in the valley of the Lúčanský potok. The village is also located in the valley of the Homola stream below Jarabica Mountain. The higher-lying parts of the Lúčky municipal area form broad ridges on less resistant andesite. Valley, stream, mountain, and geological subsoil thus each feature under their own names in the local geographical references.

Culture

The State Bobbin-Lace Workshop was founded in Lúčky in 1893. The surviving building of the State Bobbin-Lace Workshop is designated as a cultural monument. Bobbin lace was produced in Lúčky until the end of the Second World War. The village’s craft history is therefore linked to a specific workshop, a surviving building, and a tradition of production identified by period.

The religious buildings include the Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas. It was built in 1487, stands within a fortified complex in the center of Lúčky, and has Gothic entrance portals. The Evangelical Church in Lúčky was built in 1823 in the Classical style. This group is complemented by a Neo-Gothic roadside chapel from the late 19th century.

Villagescape

Lúčky is characterized by a traditional chain-like colonization settlement pattern. The housing stock includes wooden houses and masonry houses from the 19th century with hipped or gabled shingle roofs. Thus, in addition to the settlement form, the village’s specific construction methods, materials, and roof forms are also identified.

Routes

The Barborská cesta route leads from Kremnica in the direction of Lúčky. Another named route connection is the Náučný chodník č. 1b educational trail, which runs as a branch along the hillside above Lúčky. This branch provides access to the ruins of the Church of the Holy Cross, built in 1734.

The Pohronsko - kremnický cyklookruh also leads to Lúčky: the route runs downhill, with an opportunity to stop for refreshments. The circular route uses paved sections and gravel sections. Thus, the village has a direct connection to a route from the direction of Kremnica, a hillside educational trail, and a cycling route with different surfaces.
