In winter, the multi-purpose sports field in Horná Ves becomes an ice rink for hockey players and skaters. Horná Ves lies in the picturesque Kremnické vrchy mountains and at the confluence of the Lúčanský potok and Rudnica streams. The winter activity stands alongside the trails and local history; these topics can be considered separately and arranged according to your own focus.

Nature and Trails

The location and healthy environment of Horná Ves are suitable for walks and more demanding hikes. The second section of the Kremnica hiking trail leads from Ihráč to Nevoľné and from there along a yellow-marked route to Horná Ves; there it continues on a blue-marked route back to Kremnica. The route to Kremnický štít is part of an educational trail. Different markings and the educational trail help distinguish the trail options and align your own planning with the route and destination.

Culture and Local History

In the centre of Horná Ves stands a Baroque national cultural monument column featuring a sculpture of the Holy Trinity dating from 1710; it was created as a votive ensemble after the plague epidemic of 1710. In 1776, the Trinity column was transferred from Kremnica to Horná Ves, having previously stood in front of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kremnica. The structure therefore connects a specific link to the town centre with its earlier history in Kremnica.

Mining History

At the southern entrance to Horná Ves is the portal of the Hlboká adit. The adit was driven from 1519 to 1613 and is 7,050 metres long; it served for drainage, transport, and exploration. The Hlavná adit runs beneath Horná Ves and is 15,821 metres long. Near Žiar nad Hronom, the Hlavná adit empties into the Hron River.

The Primaverka hydroelectric power station was built in Horná Ves in 1896 with an output of 110 kW. It was used to power mining machinery in the fourth shaft in Kremnica. The mining history of Horná Ves is closely connected with the history of gold mining in Kremnica. The ochre obtained from the mine water of the Hlboká adit was processed in Horná Ves by Farbová továreň bratov Strobentzových during the First Czechoslovak Republic and sold as a colouring agent to the chemical industry. Underground workings, water engineering, and the processing of an extracted material thus form clearly distinguishable historical topics.
