Turecká: Ski hotel, Krížna and winter trails in the Great Fatra

Winter

The area can be accessed via hiking trails, the Turecká–Líška ski run and from Suchá dolina via the ridge of Dlhý Grúň. In 2014, the SKI Turecká ski resort had three lifts and 1.3 kilometres of ski runs. In 2014, cross-country skiing, sledding and alpine skiing were among the seasonal sports available there. Ski touring is possible from 1 November to 31 March.

Nature

Krížna has a distinctive, treeless massif with expansive panoramic views. The ascent from Saľaška in Turecká to Krížna covers 4.2 kilometres, takes 2 hours 38 minutes and climbs 787 metres in elevation. Three red-marked hiking trails meet at the summit of Krížna. A classic circular route from Turecká via Kráľova studňa is approximately 18.5 kilometres long and involves 1,100 metres of elevation gain.

Trails

Turecká and its surroundings offer opportunities for mountain hiking and sports, as well as numerous marked and unmarked trails. Around Turecká, mountain bike routes connect the valleys with more distant destinations such as Kráľova Studňa. There are also short outings, longer hikes and multi-day tours around Turecká.

The Velká Fatra educational trail begins at a car park in Turecká, follows a yellow-marked trail to the starting point at Pod Líškou and ends at Chata pod Borišovom. It comprises nine stations explaining the varied relief formation in rocks of the Choč and Krížna nappes.

Getting there

The main road connection to Turecká leads from Banská Bystrica towards Donovaly and Ružomberok; in Staré Hory, turn off towards Turecká. A bus connection is listed on the Banská Bystrica–Špania Dolina–Dolný Harmanec–Staré Hory–Turecká corridor.

Culture

The Krňačky race in Turecká is connected with former carnival customs and uses traditional sleds built without nails or screws. The tradition of Krňačky races in Turecká has existed since 1957. There were four sheepfolds on the bare massif of Krížna.

At the beginning of summer, Slovak and European championships in cooking and eating bryndzové halušky are held in Turecká. They include demonstrations of folk handicrafts and the sale of traditional products. At the Halušky Festival in Turecká on 24 and 25 July 2026, there was a competition, handicrafts, entertainment, halušky for visitors, refreshments and a cultural programme.
