Pregasio: Historic Village with Trails to Campione

Pregasio is a historic village at 478 metres above sea level, overlooking Lake Garda. Pregasio lies along the road from Pieve to Sermerio. There are also direct trail connections to Campione, historic traces from the First World War and nearby destinations such as the Limonaia Pra de la Fam Museum and Castello Scaligero.

San Marco and the History of the Village

The San Marco church in Pregasio was built in 1564 during Venetian rule. The altarpiece on the main altar depicts Saint Mark leaning over the Gospel. Thus, the same church building combines a precise construction date with a clearly described pictorial subject. San Marco is also directly connected with several other historical references associated with the area.

The historic San Marco festival in Pregasio was celebrated on 25 April. At the festival, people ate capretto and Spongadì, the traditional cake of Tremosine sul Garda.

The routes reveal different aspects of the surroundings: the steep trail begins on the road beside San Marco and leads directly to Campione, while the trail from Pregasio to Campione passes through Lò and by the old quarry. Historical Connection to the Lake

During the First World War, a military cableway ran directly from the lake to Pregasio and was used to transport goods. This historic connection adds a specific link between the lake and the higher altitude to the village’s present-day character. It clearly belongs to the period of the First World War and describes the transport of goods at that time, not a current transport connection.
