Lombardy: Hotels and Accommodation

On the Lombard side of the Adamello Group lies Parco dell’Adamello, covering 51,000 hectares. The Adamello Group is home to Italy’s largest glacier, whose area is currently estimated at around 18 square kilometres.

Mountains and Trails

Parco dell’Adamello has an almost 1,000-kilometre network of trails. The Alta Via dell’Adamello, trail number 1, runs for around 50 kilometres through almost the entire park.

Nature

The Lombard sector of Parco Nazionale dello Stelvio offers activities, excursions, workshops and events. These activities take place throughout the year at representative locations on the Valtellina and Brescia sides of the park. The visitor experiences focus on alpine biodiversity and the relationships between people and nature.

Val Camonica, also known as Valcamonica or Valle Camonica, stretches for around 90 kilometres between the Province of Brescia and the Province of Bergamo, runs along Lake Iseo and ends at the Tonale, Aprica and Gavia passes.

Culture and History

Crespi d’Adda is an outstanding example of the company towns built in Europe and North America in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The site was founded to house the workers of a textile factory and preserves factories, homes and services as components of its industrial townscape.

Mantua and Sabbioneta represent two aspects of Renaissance urban planning. The World Heritage Site of Mantua and Sabbioneta includes numerous historic buildings, including an 11th-century rotunda and a Baroque theatre. Sabbioneta features a grid of streets; its fortification walls, public spaces and monuments make the city one of the best examples of ideal cities built in Europe.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site Sacri Monti, also known as the Sacred Mountains of Piedmont and Lombardy, comprises nine separate complexes in the mountains of northern Italy. The Monastero di San Pietro in Lamosa contains significant frescoes.

Culinary Culture

Franciacorta is associated with traditional dishes, renowned wines and special culinary and wine routes. Franciacorta Millesimati wines are not released onto the market until they have matured for at least 37 months. Cycling routes as well as trekking and Nordic walking trails run through the vineyards. Manzo all’olio di Rovato is a traditional meat dish served on a bed of polenta.

Cycling

Lombardy offers flat cycle paths for families, as well as tours by e-bike or gravel bike and more technically demanding routes for road cycling and mountain biking enthusiasts.
