Temù in Winter: Ski Area, Mountains and Culture

Temù combines winter sports with a distinctive mountain landscape and readily accessible cultural attractions. In winter, the town has a ski area with 4 chairlifts and 8 slopes of varying difficulty, connected to the rest of the ski area. This means you can distinguish between different slope requirements when planning your time while also choosing a place where, alongside skiing, trails, museums, historic buildings and an ice-skating facility are all part of the experience.

Beginners can assess the slopes according to their indicated difficulty, while experienced skiers can include the connection with the rest of the ski area in their daily planning.

The landscape shapes the character of winter sports here: meadows and coniferous forests surround Temù, while the snow-covered peaks of the Adamello Group rise above them. The mountain setting also remains tangible away from the slopes. The Roccolo Ventura chairlift operates in summer and has hooks for mountain bikes. The Pontedilegno-Tonale Bike Park extends across Passo Tonale, Ponte di Legno and Temù and includes 6 trails.

Routes to Val d’Avio and Santa Giulia

You can reach Val d’Avio from Temù via a route approximately 5 km long that is accessible by car as far as Malga Caldea at an altitude of 1,508 m. In Località Predazzo, on the road to Val d’Avio, there is a car park with approximately 10 spaces and a drinking fountain. The approximate number of parking spaces is only a guide and does not indicate that parking will always be available.

The Chiesetta di Santa Giulia stands at 1,860 m above Mezzullo on the edge of a larch forest. From the Temù cable-car car park, it can be reached either by cable car to Roccolo Ventura or on foot via the Mezzullo–Roccolo Ventura gravel road. Anyone interested in stage SI D29S of the Sentiero Italia should follow its route carefully: after the complete descent through the Valle dell’Avio, it crosses the Oglio River and then climbs up to the centre of Temù.

Museums, buildings and local history

The Museo della Guerra Bianca in Adamello focuses on the White War, which was fought on the high-mountain front. Several hundred artefacts recovered at high altitude are explained there through historical texts and images. The permanent exhibition is accessible during the scheduled regular opening hours; special openings are possible by prior arrangement, particularly for organised groups and school classes.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo is a 17th-century building that was extensively remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries. The church houses a collection of wooden artworks, including the main altar by Giovan Battista Zotti and the Rosary altar from the Ramus workshop. According to local legend, the Chiesa di Sant'Alessandro was founded by Charlemagne.

The former hydroelectric power station in Località Centrale was built after the First World War; construction work lasted from 1921 to 1927. The building is located approximately 1 km from Temù on the Oglio River and is considered an example of industrial archaeology. It therefore represents an earlier technical use and should not be equated with a currently described power-station operation.

Winter alternatives on the ice

The Palaghiaccio in Temù complements the range of slopes with ice skating. You can ice-skate there from October to April. The Palaghiaccio also offers courses led by FISG instructors for beginners and for skaters starting out in competitive sport. This makes it possible to plan a stay even when members of a group have different interests in winter sports.
