Waldmünchen: Trails, Winter and Culture
Accommodation in Waldmünchen
Waldmünchen combines local trails, designated winter activities and culture. The options differ in format—from a network of trails and named circular routes to a winter hiking trail and snowshoe trails.

Hiking and Tour Planning
Waldmünchen has 20 local hiking trails of varying lengths and difficulty levels. When choosing a route, the desired distance and level of difficulty are therefore useful criteria; check the latest information for your chosen route before setting out. Two terrain therapy trails are designated circular routes: the Große Perlseerunde and the Antoniussteig. If you are specifically looking for a circular route, these two clearly named trails are options. If you are planning a multi-day hike, you can include Waldmünchen in your plans as a stage stop on the Goldsteig.
Cycling Routes with a Shared Starting Point
Cyclists have 16 signposted routes to choose from. All are circular routes and start in Waldmünchen at the car park by the youth education centre. The shared starting point provides a specific landmark for planning your ride. As both the number of routes and the starting-point arrangements may change, check these details again before planning.
Winter Trails and Snowshoeing
For winter hikes, Waldmünchen offers a 5.6-kilometre DSV-certified winter hiking trail. There are also five snowshoe trails. Choosing between them means comparing two different activities: a single winter hiking route with a specified length and certification, or snowshoeing on one of the trails. Check the winter hiking trail’s availability and certification each season; the snowshoe trails are also subject to seasonal conditions.
Museum and Pilgrimage
The Grenzland- und Trenckmuseum in Waldmünchen features exhibitions on “Life on the Border” and “Trenck the Pandur” across three floors. The exhibits are mostly presented as scenes and surrounded by life-size photographs. The two themes offer different perspectives. Check the latest visitor information before your visit. The wider destination of Cham also offers other cultural attractions. In Furth im Wald, a town in the district of Cham, the Drachenhöhle offers a tour with information about the town’s dragon history, the festival and the technology behind the dragon robot. The summer festivals there are part of the Drachenstich tradition. In Neukirchen beim Heiligen Blut, a municipality in the district of Cham, the pilgrimage museum is housed in the former Pflegschloss and contains treasures from the archive of the pilgrimage church. Check the operator’s latest visitor information before visiting the Drachenhöhle.
The Waldmünchen horse pilgrimage takes place every year on the second Sunday in September. The riders gather in Waldmünchen’s market square and make their way, praying and singing, to the pilgrimage church in Ast. This gives the event a set starting point and a named destination. If you would like to plan around the pilgrimage, check the arrangements for that year locally.
