Cultural history in Roding

The Roding Dance of Death fresco is located on the cemetery wall. It was probably created around the middle of the 17th century based on an older model. This date is an estimate and refers to when the fresco was created.

Josefi Chapel was originally the baptistery of Roding’s original church, which dates from the 7th or 8th century. Its upper floor, added at a later date, contains frescoes from the 13th and 14th centuries. They were executed using the Romanesque and Gothic fresco-secco techniques. The chapel thus reveals distinct periods: its early function as a baptistery and the later paintings on the upper floor.

Anna Chapel is also connected with the old cemetery wall: it is attached to the wall and replaced an earlier building around 1650. When making a cultural and historical comparison, it is worth noting the different details. For Josefi Chapel, the focus is on its original function and the frescoes; for Anna Chapel, it is on its attachment to the wall and its replacement of the earlier building.

Leisure activities at Esper

The leisure area at Esper is located directly on the Regen and offers activities for different age groups. Each facility has a different focus. The skate park has a mini ramp, ledges, and a box. The Jungle Arena consists of a climbable dome structure and a pyramid-shaped octagonal net. Its adventure course is designed for children and young people.

The Jungle Arena structure is more than six metres high and offers views of the surrounding trees and the Regen floodplains. Its height and the view across the landscape are characteristic features, alongside its structural elements. The water experience platform on the Regen offers an opportunity to experience nature. It provides a different kind of activity from the skate park and climbing park: the focus here is on experiencing the river surroundings.

At the disc golf course at Esper, sport, nature, and strategy come together. On the course by the Regen, metal baskets with chains serve as targets. This distinguishes the activity from the built structures of the skate park and Jungle Arena: here, the focus is on the course and the target baskets.

Discs for the disc golf course can be borrowed from the neighbouring BSV Vaillant e. V. clubhouse or purchased at the town hall or Tourist Information Office. Check before your visit whether these borrowing and purchasing options are currently available. This way, you can plan for discs without assuming they will be available.

Visitor information and cultural programme

Roding Tourist Information provides visitors with leaflets about leisure activities, hiking and cycling maps, and a current town map. If you need a specific map, check its availability in advance. There is also a digital information point in front of the Tourist Information Office, where you can interactively explore sights, events, and other activities.

Kulturhaus Fronfeste hosts changing exhibitions, theatre, films, and cabaret. The programme offers a range of cultural events, with dates published separately. This lets you include the cultural events in your travel plans without assuming that an event will take place on a particular date.
