Schorndorf: Circular Routes and Leisure Activities

Schorndorf offers several different ways to plan a stay: playground and outdoor activities, hiking trails, a cycling route and folk theater in July. Activities range from the adventure playground at the entrance to the village to trails with named stops.

Leisure Activities and Outdoor Activities

At the entrance to Schorndorf from the direction of Michelsneukirchen is the adventure playground. It has an integrated sports field, a water play area, and balance and climbing equipment. The sports field is intended for children to play and run around. The grounds bring together ball games, water play and activities on the equipment—various options in one place.

The Funbox skate park is also located on the adventure playground grounds. The fitalParc has a different focus: Several stations and a series of exercise equipment form an activity trail that trains coordination and strength. This makes it easy to choose between the playground, skate park and activity trail, depending on the activity you have in mind.

Hiking Trails with Different Highlights

Hiking trail Sd01 runs from Thierling through Neuhaus and along the Längseugenweg, a shady woodland trail with viewpoints. The castle complex in Neuhaus is recommended as a sightseeing stop on a hike along Sd01. The route combines a named trail, a woodland section with viewpoints and a suggested cultural stop. Circular route Sd02 starts at the information board in Schorndorf, passes through Hötzing, Kühberg, Sandberg, Thierling and Stegmühle, and returns to the information board. Just before Thierling, a field path along the circular route offers a view of Schorndorf and its surroundings. At Sd02, the Gutshof Hötzing offers a place to stop at a beer garden with an old wooden skittle alley. Check current opening hours in advance. Compared with Sd01, the closed circular route, the named stops and the place to stop for refreshments are distinctive points of reference on Sd02.

Cycling Route and Summer Theater

The international Regensburg–Cham–Pilsen Festival Cycling Route passes directly through Schorndorf. Alongside the local hiking trails, this provides a specific cycling route to consider when planning your trip. The Schorndorf amateur theater group stages folk theater each July against the backdrop of Neuhaus Castle as part of “Theater auf Burg Neuhaus.” If your stay falls in July, the theater can be a seasonal cultural highlight; check current local announcements for specific performances.
