Culture and history

A walking route through Montchavin, a hamlet of Bellentre, passes carved balconies, the Sainte-Agathe Chapel and farm animals. Montchavin has preserved its Savoyard village character, with chalets clad in wood and stone, a working farm, a chapel and a car-free village centre.

The present-day Sainte-Agathe Chapel in Montchavin was built in 1988 on the site of an old mill. The small religious chapel of Saint-Clair is located in the authentic lanes of Montorlin.

The first historical references to the Notre-Dame-de-la-Compassion Chapel in Bellentre date back to 1634. The exterior of the Saint-André Church in Bellentre indicates Romanesque origins.

The central painting of the main altarpiece in the Saint-André Church in Bellentre depicts the martyrdom of Saint Andrew and was created by Pignol in 1716. The pulpit in the same church was carved by Joseph-Marie Martel in 1765.

The Saint Joseph et Saint Pierre Chapel in Gothard is first documented in 1732. The Notre Dame des Ermites Chapel in Le Crey is first documented in 1773.
