Culture and History
The Musée archéologique d'Aime is classified as a “Musée de France” and presents archaeological evidence from the Neolithic period to modern times. Visits and reception at the museum are provided jointly with La Plagne Vallée.
The Basilique Saint-Martin is an 11th-century basilica with frescoes dating from the late 12th to early 13th century, as well as a crypt. It was built on the foundations of a Roman civil basilica and houses a lapidary museum.
The Eglise Notre-Dame houses a “Vierge allaitant” dating from the mid-14th century. The church was extended at the end of the 17th century and also displays features of Baroque art.
The Château Montmayeur is a 13th-century tower that was remodelled in the 15th century and became the residence of the Sires Montmayeur. An exhibition there explains the valley’s traditional architecture using models, drawings and soundscapes.
The “Les secrets des édifices d'Aime” guided tour takes place every Tuesday in summer and is led by a Guide du patrimoine. The Parcours historique d'Aime et ses villages is an interactive tour that can be accessed via smartphone to discover Aime’s architectural heritage. It is free and available every day year-round.
Hiking
The Sentier de Grumailly is a moderately difficult 8 km circular hike with a walking time of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes, including 350 m of ascent. The trail follows a balcony route between the town, vineyards and traditional buildings.
