Trails and Activities
The Tour de la Mine is a free, easy circular trail covering 4.3 km and taking around three hours. It begins at the Place de l'Etoile in Montchavin, leads through Montorlin and returns to Montchavin. Along the way, the circular trail passes ruins associated with the coal mining industry, which operated until the 20th century.
In Montchavin, visitors can visit a farm and take part in a nighttime village tour.
Culture and Village Character
Montchavin has a village centre reserved for pedestrians. Montchavin-Les Coches is surrounded by woodland.
The Chapelle Sainte Agathe in Montchavin is a Baroque chapel mentioned in 1634 and rebuilt in 1988.
The newer buildings in Montchavin feature Savoyard architecture using stone and wood. Montchavin also has Savoyard-style chalets clad in wood and stone.
Nature
For warm-season hiking, the Lac des Pierres Blanches is mentioned in the Montchavin-Les Coches area. The Vallée de Bauches offers an excursion destination with remarkable alpine chalets along a babbling stream.
