Culture
In 1430, Count Amédée VIII sent two officials to Saint-Julien-Mont-Denis to select the slate needed for repairs to Annecy Castle. The last slate quarry in Saint-Julien-Mont-Denis, operated by Raoul Chauvin, closed in 1982.
The La Tour de Saint-Julien-Montdenis tower and the adjoining building house the Musée Ardoisier and the municipal library. The Chapelle de Tourmentier is associated with a protected cultural object: the bas-relief “Vierge de Pitié” with frame.
The historic site of Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne (Convent) is located near Saint-Julien-Mont-Denis. The Fort du Télégraphe is also nearby. Further afield in the region are the Fort du Sappey and the Fort du Replaton.
Nature
Several peaks are located in the immediate vicinity of Saint-Julien-Mont-Denis: Pointe du Télégraphe, le Pic du Génie, Tête d'Albiez-le-Vieux and le Petit Perron.
Trails
The Sentier de la Cochette begins at the hamlet of La Rochelle, a few hundred metres from the church. Depending on the season, a few individual ibex may be spotted along this trail.
The Circuit des Ardoisiers is an old slate-mining service path carved directly into the rock. It runs along the mountainside on the right bank of the Saint-Julien mountain stream. The return route leads over a ridge and offers views of the valley.
