Nature and Landscapes

On the upper slopes of Monterminod, the dry grasslands are classified as Espaces Naturels Sensibles. The Bout du Monde site is also one of the places in Saint-Alban-Leysse covered by the designation of the Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges.

Culture and History

The Via Saturnina ran along the slope in Saint-Alban-Leysse and was up to 6 meters wide. The municipal heritage app lists it as a heritage site of Saint-Alban-Leysse. Under the name “Saint Alban-Leysse Autrefois,” the app offers an interactive map with audio commentary on local heritage sites and aims to contribute to the development of local tourism.

The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Lorette is located in the hamlet of Villaret; its existence was first documented in 1576. The small vaulted building has a semicircular apse. Above the altar is a semicircular wall niche containing a stone Madonna and Child.

The Église de Saint Alban Leysse already existed in the 12th century. The Gothic Chapelle de Saint-Saturnin is an ancient pilgrimage site in a rock face near a climbing area. The Château de Monterminod dates back to the 11th century.

The site of the Papeterie du Bout du Monde is located at the confluence of the Doria and Leysse rivers, downstream from the Bout du Monde waterfall. The Papeterie du Bout du Monde is described as a paper mill; a building at the Bout du Monde waterfall is already marked on the 1728 Sardinian Map.

Since opening in March 2024, the Maison des Arts in Saint-Alban-Leysse has held monthly exhibitions covering all areas of art.

Trails and Local Exploration

The Boucle de Razerel is a family hiking trail in Saint-Alban-Leysse that leads from the town through forests and vineyards into the surrounding countryside. It is open year-round, provided weather conditions are favorable. The trail crosses terraced meadows and features a panoramic information panel with views of Mont Granier and the Chambéry basin.

The Boucle du Bout du Monde begins at the Plaine des Sports and follows an almost flat, family-friendly interpretive trail to the confluence of the Leysse and Doria rivers.

After a first edition in 2024, the cycling tour connected to the local heritage was offered again; the documented route is approximately 10 kilometers long.
