Getting There
Regular SNCF and Trenitalia services run to Modane railway station. From there, the local transport network connects the villages of Haute Maurienne.

The “Circuit de l'alpage du Vallon” is a marked 10.6 km out-and-back hike with 600 m of elevation gain and a stated duration of 4 hours 15 minutes. The route is located in Vanoise National Park and begins in the village of Bessans via the Chemin du Petit Bonheur. It leads to a tasting at the Auberge de Panino featuring homemade yoghurt, regional tarts and Beaufort from family production.
Water and Other Activities
Espace Ludi'lacs includes a supervised bathing lake. Several providers offer activities there, such as canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. The river fishing area on the upper Arc near Bessans covers 7 km of river upstream and downstream from Bessans.
The mountain-bike trails at Chantelouve offer enjoyable routes for all ability levels.
Culture and History
The “Diable de Bessans” originated as a wooden figure made by the village artist Vincendet in the last century during a dispute with the parish priest. The “Bessans Jadis et Aujourd'hui” circuit is a themed open-air walk exploring the village, its history and the way of life in the mountains.
Guided tours are offered at Erablo in summer and winter; groups can take part year-round on request. The Church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is presented in Maurienne as a treasure of Baroque art. The Chapel of Saint-Antoine is also presented in Maurienne as a treasure of Baroque art.
The Avérole Valley is home to hamlets with traditional architecture featuring stone chalets and slate roofs, typical of these high-altitude valleys.
