Vinay is considered a gateway to the Vercors Regional Nature Park and lies at the foot of the Vercors Massif. At the same time, the town is at the heart of Europe's largest walnut-growing region and is the capital of the AOC “Noix de Grenoble”.

Finding a hotel in Vinay is a travel decision in its own right.

Culture and History

The Grand Séchoir is a museum about Noix de Grenoble walnuts in Vinay. Its permanent exhibition presents the history of the walnut-growing region and the people who made it famous. It also explores traditional knowledge and the present-day craft of walnut producers. The Grand Séchoir also offers the escape game “LA LÉGENDE DES NOIX D’OR”, which is recommended for ages 14 and over.

The Château de Montvinay was originally built as a medieval castle and was later rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The current building dates from 1876.

Town Centre

Vinay's historic centre can be explored on foot via the small streets of the old town centre.

Events

The Salon de la Noix de Grenoble, featuring regional products, takes place every year on the last weekend of November. The Fêtes de la Rosière are celebrated on the last weekend of August and date back to the will of M. Brun Faulquier.

Cycling

From Vinay, La Belle Via follows the town's small streets. The “Circuit 4: In the Land of Walnuts” includes a visit to the Grand Séchoir in the immediate vicinity of Vinay's town centre.

The La Belle Via stage from Vinay to Romans-sur-Isère initially follows low-traffic roads between La Sône and Saint-Nazaire-en-Royans, then a cycle path along the Canal de la Bourne to Eymeux, and subsequently partly follows roads with very little traffic and a voie verte to Romans-sur-Isère.
