Saint-Martin-Le-Vinoux: Hotels and Accommodation

At the entrance to Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux stands La Casamaures, a historic monument protected as a listed heritage site. It is protected for its distinctive Orientalist style and its innovative construction using molded cement. La Casamaures was built in the Moorish style in 1867 and was one of the first buildings to use the molded-cement technique developed by the Vicat brothers. On the first Saturday of every month at 2 p.m., a public guided tour of the historic monument takes place without prior registration.

Culture

The Église Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney was designed by Jean Cognet in 1958. The motifs in its stained-glass windows were created by Gabriel and Jacques Loire, while the frescoes were created by Elisabeth Meyer. The building is constructed of exposed concrete; colored glass panes alternate with concrete panels in an opening running around the building beneath the roof. The history of Notre-Dame de l’Annonciation has been documented since the 11th century, while the present-day church was rebuilt in 1826.

Getting around the town

The Maison des Moaïs is a two-minute walk from the Horloge stop on tram line E. In the lower part of the municipality, this line serves four stops: Casamaures-Village near Grenoble, Hôtel de Ville, Horloge and Néron.

Nature

The Étang Pique-Pierre is designated as a biodiversity reservoir in the center of Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux. Le Néron is also home to the Batteries, a former military facility from the late 19th century that is open to visitors and includes a tunnel approximately 50 meters long. Le Néron is suitable for mountaineering and hiking.

Hiking and cycling

The town has compiled a guide listing several hikes for exploring Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux. These include the route “La Bastille et le Jalla depuis Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux,” which runs from Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux to the Bastille of Grenoble and then on to Mont Jalla. It is a difficult 9 km circular hike with 520 meters of ascent.

The “Boucle vélo du Néron” cycle loop includes more than 500 meters of ascent and a section with a gradient of more than 10 percent, and is therefore reserved for experienced cyclists. In Saint-Martin-le-Vinoux, after the town hall, it follows the cycle lane on Avenue du Général-Leclerc (D1075).
