Vosges: Hotels and accommodations

Winter and trails

The Vosges offer more than 4,000 kilometers of marked and maintained hiking trails. Since 1921, the Club Vosgien has marked nearly 4,000 kilometers of trails there. In addition, the Vosges include 500 kilometers of marked Grande Randonnée trails.

The Voie Verte des Hautes Vosges offers 53 kilometers of trails for several activities through the mountains.

Nature

The Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park comprises high-altitude pastures, wetlands, beech-fir forests, and limestone grasslands.

The Lispach and Ténine wetlands are listed in the inventory of sensitive natural areas of the Vosges department. Lac de Lispach has a floating peat bog that covers nearly half of its surface area.

The Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park has visitor centers with documentation and temporary exhibitions. Nearly 2,500 species have also been identified in the park.

Geographical setting

The Route des Crêtes is 77 kilometers long and passes by the Grand Ballon, the Hohneck, and the Col de la Schlucht. It offers views of lakes, valleys, and peaks.

During the winter period, the Route des Crêtes is closed to traffic from mid-November.

The route along the Canal des Vosges connects Nancy and Bains-les-Bains via a Voie verte through forests and valleys.

Culture

The Vosges have four spa towns: Bains-les-Bains, Vittel, Plombières-les-Bains, and Contrexéville. In Plombières-les-Bains, four historic thermal baths are listed as Monuments historiques. Bains-les-Bains preserves Gallo-Roman traces, including ancient mosaics.

Since the 17th century, Mirecourt has exported violins all over the world. The Musée de la lutherie et de l’archèterie françaises explains the craft of violin making in Mirecourt.

Cuisine

Repas marcaire is traditionally served in the farm inns of the Hautes-Vosges.

Glace de Plombières is associated with Plombières-les-Bains; according to a local legend, its origins date back to the meeting between Napoleon III and Cavour in 1858.
