Zubří lies in a gently rolling landscape at an elevation of approximately 500 to 800 metres, predominantly characterized by coniferous forests.

Landscape and Trails

The village lies on a blue-marked hiking trail in the Žďárské vrchy Protected Landscape Area. The local hiking trails are generally short, feature moderate climbs, and lead through a quiet, picturesque landscape. The area around Zubří also offers numerous quiet, lightly trafficked roads suitable for cycling.

The long-distance Posázavská cycle route is signposted along road III/36039. An approximately seven-kilometre circular trail begins in Zubří and leads through the natural surroundings. It heads towards Zuberský rybník, where it also follows the educational trail “In the Footsteps of the Last Wolf”.

Culture

The Zuberská Chapel was consecrated on 25 September 1904. Since 1968, a church service has been held there regularly on the feast day of Saints Peter and Paul; on this day, the people of Zubří celebrate the Zuber pilgrimage.

The tradition of the Masopust masked procession in Zubří was revived in 2001. During the Masopust procession, the masked participants, accompanied by music, visit all the houses in Zubří. Martinské hody is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the feast of Saint Martin, but not every year.

History

In the garden of house no. 12, towards Pohledec, stands a small technical monument, almost hidden by the tree crowns: a windmill from the 1930s. It was formerly used to pump water and supply the entire property, including the garden; during the war, it was also used provisionally to grind flour.

The “Jára Cimrman’s Footprint” was created by the children of the Černé ovce camp, 2nd session, near Bidláky, and ceremonially unveiled on 16 August 2006 at “Téčko” behind the BVV.
