Culture and History
The UNESCO site of Telč comprises the historic town center, a castle at its center, and two bodies of water that originally served defensive purposes. The historic center includes a triangular market square surrounded by Renaissance and Baroque burgher houses connected by a continuous arcade.
The UNESCO site of Třebíč combines the Jewish Quarter, the Jewish Cemetery, and the Basilica of St. Procopius as evidence of peaceful Jewish-Christian coexistence from the Middle Ages until the Second World War. The Jewish Quarter preserves its original street plan, spatial layout, and historical social functions, including synagogues and schools.
Muzeum Vysočiny Jihlava was founded in 1892. Its exhibitions are housed in three architecturally valuable buildings on Jihlava's main square; three additional branches complement the museum. Its thematic focus includes regional history, the living nature of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, medieval sculpture, mining and coinage, geology, and lapidarium collections.
The Pilgrimage Church of St. John of Nepomuk on Zelená hora was completed and consecrated in 1722. Muzeum Vysočiny Třebíč is housed in a Renaissance castle that was formerly a Benedictine monastery, where it presents regional history and everyday life.
