Přestanov: Hotels and Accommodation

A yellow-marked hiking trail to the battle monuments begins in Přestanov. It leads through the memorial sites of the 1813 Battle of Kulm; the route to the battlefields is just under 10 kilometres long. From the centre of Ústí nad Labem, the route can be reached by city bus 81 to Přestanov, where the sightseeing route begins.

Battlefield and Monuments

The Baroque Juchtová Chapel stands about 500 metres northwest of Přestanov at a junction where the roads to Unčín and Stradov diverge. It is located on the axis of the main line of battle, where Russian artillery and infantry guards stopped the major French attack.

The French Monument was erected next to Juchtová Chapel in 1911. In Přestanov, the monument known as the “Ruský pomník” commemorates the 1813 battle. It consists of a cast-iron pyramid topped by a figure of Nike, with lions at its base. The mass grave in Přestanov contains the recovered remains of nearly 10,000 of the more than 20,000 soldiers who fell in the battle.

Chapel and Village Centre

The Chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua stands in the centre of Přestanov. It is a rectangular building with a gabled roof and a semicircular apse beneath a conical roof. The altar features a Baroque sandstone statue of Saint Anthony dating from 1726.

History and Protected Area

Přestanov was founded as a village in the 12th century and was first mentioned in writing in 1348. The medieval and modern village centre is an archaeological site with documented or reasonably expected archaeological finds. Přestanov is part of the “Území bojiště u Přestanova, Chlumce a Varvažova” Landscape Protection and Heritage Zone.

Cycling Route

Cycle Route 3009 runs through Přestanov, leading from Adolfov via Unčín and Chlumec southwards to Radejčín.
