Chabařovice: Hotels and Accommodation
Accommodation in Chabařovice
Lake Milada was created by flooding the remaining pit of the Chabařovice–Milada open-pit mine. The area currently offers opportunities especially for running, cycling and water sports; the lake and its surroundings were opened to the public in 2015. The Vyklická cesta connects Chabařovice with Lake Milada. From it, there is a beautiful view of the lake and a wide panorama.
Townscape and Architectural History
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (“Kostel narození Panny Marie”) stands in the middle of Chabařovice’s square. Its existence was first recorded in writing in 1352, while construction of the present church began from scratch in 1699. The Church of St. John the Baptist (“Kostelík sv. Jana Křtitele”) was built in 1822 on the site of a demolished chapel and contains a grotto that has been preserved to this day. From there, there is a panoramic view of Chabařovice against the backdrop of the Ore Mountains.
The Old Town Hall is an architecturally interesting building dating from 1609 and separates Chabařovice’s two squares. It was renovated in the mid-1990s; the original tower clock and its hand-wound mechanism were also preserved.
Museum, Remembrance and Traditions
The Chabařovice City Museum presents an exhibition on the history of Chabařovice from its beginnings to the Second World War. It also covers the history of the settlements that had to make way for lignite mining. The museum is currently open to the public by arrangement.
The “Památník bitvy na běhání” monument commemorates the 1426 battle in which the Hussite army led by Prokop Holý fought against a numerically superior crusader army. As a traditional event, the Chabařovice pilgrimage festival takes place regularly on the third weekend in May.
