Aussig: Hotels and accommodations

The Milešov section of the protected landscape is characterized by dramatic cone-shaped mountains, isolated ridges, scree fields, and exposed rocks. At 837 meters, Milešovka is the highest peak in this section.

Nature

The České středohoří area also has a clear elevation profile: its lowest point is reached at the Elbe in Děčín, at 122 meters above sea level. Hradišťany, Líska, Číčov, and Solanská hora are also located in the surrounding area of the Ústecký kraj region.

The Bohemian Central Uplands are of volcanic origin. Basalt cones rise from fertile fields, while castles stand above vineyards.

Trails

Bohemian Switzerland National Park has a network of marked hiking trails. The markings are maintained according to the systems of the Czech Tourist Club or the park administration. Cycling there is restricted to roads, local roads, and designated cycling routes and is subject to the conditions of the park administration. Horse riding is likewise permitted only on roads, local roads, and marked bridleways; climbing is permitted under the park rules exclusively at designated locations and during the specified times.

The historic long-distance Ridge Trail connects Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland with the Ore Mountains. Its section through a sandstone landscape leads to Rudolf’s Rock and the viewpoints of Belveder; rugged rocks and deep forests also characterize the route.

From Milešovka, the panorama extends 360 degrees across the region, while Lovoš overlooks the Elbe. The “Trail through the Land of Castles” leads to the ruins of Házmburk and includes a viewpoint from the rocky Vrabinec Castle over the Elbe. The trail from Libochovice to Házmburk is 5 km each way, takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours at a leisurely pace, and is classified as moderately difficult.

Culture

The regional NPÚ heritage administration oversees castles, châteaux, and religious monuments, including Házmburk, Jezeří, Libochovice, Ploskovice, Stekník, and Velké Březno. Hradek Oltářík, Sukoslav, Hrádek, and Hazmburk are also located in the surrounding area of the Ústecký kraj region.

Jezeří is a Baroque cultural heritage site in the Ore Mountains and offers views over the surrounding landscape. Teplice is one of the oldest spa towns in Central Europe and is associated with the meeting of Goethe and Beethoven. Other spa towns include Lázně Mšené and Klášterec nad Ohří.

The cultural landscape of Žatec and Saaz includes traditional hop fields as well as buildings used for drying, packaging, certifying, and storing hops.

Cycling

The Elbe Cycle Route runs for 96 km within the Ústecký kraj region. This includes an approximately 25 km section in the Ústí nad Labem area that follows principles of safe cycling. The route passes through Žernoseky, where visitors can sample wine.

The Ploučnice Cycle Route is a major cycling connection in the Ústecký kraj region, connects the Ústí and Liberec regions, and is part of Czech long-distance cycling route 15. It runs predominantly on paved or otherwise hard-surfaced terrain; a road bike is not recommended for it.

Some of the region’s more challenging cycling opportunities include routes through the Bohemian garnet area, the Milešov Uplands, and the Ore Mountains. They extend as far as the Ore Mountain Museum in Lesná and the Mědník mining gallery.
