Kunštát Castle is one of the oldest aristocratic castles in Moravia. The Kunštát castle complex is surrounded by a park.
Culture and History
The Church of St. Stanislav was originally Gothic and was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1687. The Church of the Holy Spirit at the cemetery was renovated in 1738; it also contains a family crypt belonging to the owners of the Kunštát estate.
The Kunštát Municipal Information Centre houses a permanent exhibition on the history and present of pottery in the Kunštát region. Another cultural highlight is the František Halas and Klement Bochořák Memorial Hall, with a permanent exhibition about František Halas and Klement Bochořák.
At Kunštát Castle, the guided tour “Representative Rooms of the South Wing” presents the residential culture of the last aristocratic owners. The “Castle” tour shows the oldest architectural development and the history of ownership of the castle through stops in the castle courtyard, at the gate tower, in the castle palace and in the Knights’ Hall. The exhibition “In the Coat of Arms of Three Stripes” traces four centuries of family history against the backdrop of the history of Moravia.
One of Kunštát’s special places is the dog cemetery, which is considered a rare European attraction.
Routes and Landscape
The varied landscape around Kunštát is criss-crossed by hiking and cycling trails. The “Castle Stops” route, suitable for a walk, leads through the Panská zahrada, the castle game reserve and the Habrůvka castle park. A clear system of information boards is provided along the route.
The cycling tour through the Halasovo Kunštátsko Nature Park is suitable for all age and performance groups and offers different variants, directions and lengths. The cycling network in Halasovo Kunštátsko also includes rest areas and information boards.
Events and Pottery
Every October, the Halasův Kunštát poetry evenings are held in honour of František Halas. At the Hrnčířský jarmark, there are demonstrations on the potter’s wheel as well as a creative workshop for children.
