The Cvičná štola Staříč is located underground. It is an artificially created underground mine and an educational gallery with 200 metres of tunnels. Ordinary mining workplaces are arranged in the tunnels technologically as they would be in a real mine.

The ŠTOLA – HORNICKÝ SKANZEN facility was built as a training facility between 1980 and 1984 and opened to the public in 1993. Visits to the Cvičná štola Staříč are reserved for groups of at least 10 people and are possible only by prior arrangement.

History

Construction of the Staříč mine began in 1962 as the construction of a coking-coal mine. The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross in Staříč already existed in the 16th century. It received its tower in 1757.

A chapel was added to the Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross in 1852; the first organs were installed there in 1896. The church stands on the grounds of a former cemetery enclosed by a perimeter wall and an architecturally sculpted entrance gate. The church complex also includes a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk.

Nature

Kamenná is a 2.83-hectare protected natural monument, designated in 1990 and located at an altitude of 329 to 354 metres. It is home to thermophilic plants and animals, particularly molluscs, beetles and true bugs; some species occur there at their northernmost range in northeastern Moravia.

The Kamenná u Staříče Natural Monument is located on the site of long-abandoned limestone quarries on the northeastern slope of the 385-metre-high Kamenná hill in Staříč. In the Frýdek-Místek area, Kamenná u Staříče is listed as one of the small-scale specially protected natural areas.

Kamenná can be reached by suburban bus routes towards Fryčovice and Brušperk, as well as via parking areas by the primary school in Staříč and at the Staříč II mine.
