Hrčava: Hotels and Accommodation

At Hrčavské Trojmezí, the borders of the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia meet. Three granite monoliths mark the spot; a covered wooden rest area stands nearby. From the centre of Hrčava, a yellow-marked trail leads 2 km to Hrčavské Trojmezí. On the “Za den přes tři státy” route, Hrčava is located at kilometre 10.9; there, the route passes the wooden Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the three granite monoliths and the Polish border crossing.

Arrival and routes

At the entrance to Hrčava, a signposted car park with sufficient capacity is available. Hrčava can be reached by bus from Mosty u Jablunkova railway station. The Czech access route from Hrčava to Hrčavské Trojmezí leads between wooden houses through a village on a highland plateau characterised by meadows and small fields.

From Hrčava, a red-marked hiking trail leads 5.5 km to Gírová. The 11 km “Kolem Trojmezí” route starts in Hrčava and leads via Jaworzynka and Čierne back to Hrčava.

Culture and history

The wooden Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Hrčava was built in 1936. It was designed by Karel Náhůnek and contains a carved wooden baptismal font by Ondřej Zogata, who was from Hrčava. On the outside, the church combines a timber construction typical of the Těšín region with modern architectural elements inside.

As an immovable cultural monument, the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Hrčava is registered under ÚSKP number 107055. It is considered the youngest traditionally designed wooden church in the Czech Republic and an important example of interwar religious architecture.

Between Hrčava and Jaworzynka, an old customs house still stands beside a forest path; it primarily protected the border from smugglers. The regional mini-museum in Hrčava Primary School can be visited accompanied by Mr Vojkovský; further information is available in the self-service shop.

The Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage takes place in Hrčava every year on 5 July. The Lurdská jeskyně in Hrčava was established as a place of devotion; it was consecrated on 5 July 1937 on the occasion of the Hrčava pilgrimage. According to tradition, the water at the grotto is said to cure eye ailments.
