Geographical Location

Frýdlant nad Ostravicí lies in the Ostravice valley below Lysá hora and forms a gateway to the Moravian-Silesian Beskids at the foot of the mountains.

Culture and Local History

For many years, the Tourist Information Centre of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí has organised themed tours entitled “In the Footsteps of Frýdlant Cast Iron and Enamel”. They convey the past and present of the industrial sector that was important to the development of the town. In addition, the “Gallery of Artistic Enamel and Cast Iron” presents the history of enamel production in Frýdlant as well as historic cast iron from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Ferdiš Duša Memorial is also located in the Cultural Centre of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí.

The Church of St Bartholomew was built between 1672 and 1690 and extended in the first half of the 18th century. Since 3 May 1958, it has been a protected immovable cultural monument. The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was consecrated on 5 November 1876. It was built in the Neo-Romanesque style and decorated with paintings, including on a wooden ceiling. It also serves visitors as a place for spiritual and cultural needs.

Nature and Trails

The Lesní stezka Vyhlídka forest trail is 1 km long, has eight stations and focuses on the local nature and wildlife. It can be reached directly by car; from Frýdlant nad Ostravicí railway station, it can be reached on foot in approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

The 2 km-long Kamenec educational trail runs along the banks of the Ostravice. Its seven stations focus on the history and nature of the area around the river. The trail leads between the Harcovský Bridge and the footbridge in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí towards Lubno.

Cycling Tours and Mobile Trails

The “Frýdlant n.O.–Ostravice” cycling tour begins at the Tourist Information Centre in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí and leads for 23.4 km to the outdoor swimming pool in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí. It is suitable for families, electric bicycles and bicycles with trailers.

The “In the Footsteps of Frýdlant Cast Iron and Enamel” mobile trail is approximately 1 km long and includes nine stations. Frýdlant nad Ostravicí also has a separate mobile trail, “Around the Sculptures of Frýdlant”, focusing on local sculptures.

Events at the Airport

The Drakiáda documented in 2025 included a traditional exhibition of aviation and parachuting equipment and introduced the public to aviation and parachuting sports. In October 2025, a kite-flying event (“Drakiáda”) was held at Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Airport as part of a traditional open day.
