Accommodation in Kounov
Kounov lies in the valley of the Zlatý potok and Hlucký potok rivers. Bus route 264 runs between Dobruška, Bačetín, Kounov, and Deštné v Orlických horách.
History and townscape
The former Kounov Castle stood on a promontory above the confluence of the Zlatý potok and Hlucký potok rivers. Kounov traditionally had a local linen-weaving industry and also has a history of iron ore mining. Several vernacular wooden buildings from the 19th century have been preserved.
At Hluky Castle, the foundations of a defensive tower can be seen on a cone-shaped hill; nothing remains today of the former palace. The remains of Hluky Castle lie above Hluky, a district of Kounov, about 300 meters along Road 309 toward Deštné.
