Bohdašín: Hotels and Accommodation

Bohdašín can be explored through specific evidence at the site and in the surrounding area. In the built-up part of the village, at an intersection opposite House No. 47, there is a chapel dated 1826 with a prismatic bell tower.

Landscape

Bohdašín lies in the foothills of the Orlické Mountains and offers views of the Elbe Lowland and the Krkonoše Mountains.

History

Bohdašín formerly belonged to the Frymburk estate. Around 1446, iron ore was mined in the vicinity of Bohdašín and Bydlo, and ironworks were established.

Near Bohdašín, by Nový Hrádek, lie the ruins of Frymburk Castle on a high rocky spur surrounded by the Olešenka River. Frymburk Castle was in use from the 14th to the 17th century; its complex includes an 18.5 m-wide donjon on the castle spur.

Culture

On the outskirts of Bohdašín, on the road to Slavoňov, there is a sandstone group depicting Calvary.

Rokole is a designated pilgrimage site in Bohdašín and a Marian pilgrimage site that originated at the location of an apparition of the Virgin Mary. The Rokolský kostel church stands there, a pseudo-Gothic church dedicated to Our Lady of Rokole; it was built in 1930 and consecrated on 19 August 1945.

The wooden Loreta in Rokole is a passageway open at the front, with images of the Seven Sorrows of Mary hanging along it. Opposite Rokole, a Stations of the Cross with cast-iron reliefs on stone columns was built in the forest in 1874. The Schönstatt Chapel in Rokole was consecrated on 19 July 1997 and is considered the first original Schönstatt shrine in Bohemia.

Routes and Local Connections

The Cesta manželů in Rokole runs along ponds and has 15 panels with texts and sculptures. A marked hiking connection from Rokole to Bohdašín initially follows a green-marked trail and then a blue-marked trail. The stop is called “Bohdašín, V Propasti”.
