Mountain Trails and Cable Cars

The Telecabina de Panticosa reaches an altitude of 1,900 metres on a 15-minute journey. From its upper station, which is also located at 1,900 metres, trails lead to the Asnos and Sabocos glacial lakes. An alpine section of the GR 11 Senda Pirenaica begins at the Casa de Piedra mountain refuge in the Balneario de Panticosa area. The Pasarelas de Panticosa route takes approximately one hour, has an elevation gain of 160 metres and follows suspended walkways along the Río Caldarés gorge; it extends for 700 metres. The Tren de Alta Montaña El Sarrio takes visitors in 55 minutes to a valley from which a network of well-signposted trails leads to waterfalls, mountain refuges and high-altitude mountain lakes. The different journey, walking and route details help you consider shorter outings and longer days in the mountains separately.

Thermal Spa and Wellness

The Balneario de Panticosa is a thermal spa at an altitude of 1,636 metres; its waters were already used by the Romans. From 1870 onwards, it became one of the most renowned health spas in the country. The Termas de Tiberio have a heated outdoor pool with views of the mountains by day and the stars at night. Reservations are mandatory for the thermal circuit at the Termas de Tiberio. The altitude, historical use and present-day pool description highlight different aspects of the thermal offering.

Culture and Local History

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción de Ntra. Sra. Panticosa was built in the 16th century, around 1560, in the late Gothic style. A stone bridge over the Río Caldarés was built in 1556 on the site of an earlier wooden bridge; its builder, Beltrán de Betbedé, came from Béarn. Panticosa's main festival takes place in mid-August in honour of the Assumption of Mary and Saint Roch on 15 and 16 August. The patron saint celebrations include the traditional customs of Pastorada and Palotiau. The chronology of the church, bridge and festivals opens up several historical perspectives without reducing them to the same period.
