Nature and Trails

Sallent de Gállego is home to the Mirador del Salto viewpoint. The route around the Lanuza Reservoir leads from Sallent de Gállego via Lanuza and returns to Sallent along a dirt track on the right bank of the Gállego. It is slightly more than 6 kilometres long and suitable for families. The GR 16 begins in Sallent de Gállego, heads towards Panticosa past the Lanuza Reservoir and connects there with the trans-Pyrenean GR 11.

The route descriptions focus on different aspects: for the circuit, the course, bank and length are specified, while for the GR 16, the direction and connection are given. The circuit is therefore described as a route that returns to its starting point, whereas the GR 16 indicates a direction and a connection to another long-distance trail. This makes it possible to compare the described routes based on their layout without equating them.

Culture

The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción was built at the beginning of the 16th century in the Gothic style over an earlier Romanesque church. Its main altar dates from 1537 and comprises sixteen painted panels. The church is protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural in the Monument category.

The medieval Puente Medieval bridge, which is worth seeing, is also part of the locality’s history. Next to it are a children’s playground and a picnic area. This means that two explicitly named facilities for an outdoor break are also available at this historic site.

When choosing accommodation in Sallent de Gállego, travel dates, room category and cancellation policies can make different options comparable. These selection criteria can be weighed against the topics described: skiing, trails, culture and events.

Further Activities

The municipality’s sports and leisure facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, equestrian facilities, a frontón court and a climbing wall. Hípica Sallent offers a one-hour horseback ride in the surroundings of Sallent along the Aguas Limpias River and in the Sandicosa area.

Pirineos Sur uses the streets and public spaces of Sallent de Gállego for dance, new circus and street processions. On 5 August, the Virgen de las Nieves is celebrated for several days. The two references differ in form: Pirineos Sur represents a programme in public spaces, while the celebration is a festive period beginning on 5 August and lasting several days. This keeps the type of event and the time indication distinct and easy to read.
