Lazisko: Ski hotel for cross-country skiing and local history

The Lazisko–Pavčina Lehota–Žiarce circuit is a cross-country ski trail and runs through meadows with beautiful views above Lazisko.

The “Around Liptovska Mara” cycling route passes through Lazisko; it is a 58 km circular route for mountain bikes and is primarily suitable for mountain bikes and e-bikes. Tourist trails lead from Lazisko to Hradisko, where remains of the Púchov culture have been preserved. Another scenic route in Lazisko is the ascent to Siná.

Landscape and location

Lazisko lies in the protected zone of the “Národný park Nízkych Tatier” National Park and in the southern part of the Liptovská kotlina basin. It extends along the right bank of the Paludžanka River. The southern edge of Lazisko was used by subjects from Črmnô as kopanice settlements.

History and local culture

The oldest written mention of Lazisko dates back to 1396. The local heritage includes a historically significant bell tower with a bell dating from 1930. The Lazisko bell tower stands in its original location, directly next to the municipal office. The wooden articulated evangelical church is also a defining feature; it is one of the largest wooden structures in Central Europe.

Customs and the present day

Today, a central maypole is erected in Lazisko and dedicated to all the girls and women of the municipality. The maypoles are erected in Lazisko at Pentecost.
