Gotovany: Ski Hotel, Liptovská Mara and Local Culture

Gôtovany lies south of the Liptovská Mara reservoir and west of the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. The elevation of the cadastral area ranges from 575 to 714 metres. The municipality therefore combines a clearly defined location by the reservoir with an elevation difference that extends across its entire cadastral area.

Water and Fishing Grounds

The VN Gôtovany – Sokolčianska zátoka fishing ground is part of the Liptovská Mara reservoir. It is mainly home to carp species and predatory fish. Gôtovanská zátoka is located near Gôtovany; its grassy banks are lined with poplars, willows and alders. The bay is also designated as an independent carp fishing ground.

Culture and History

The Protestant prayer house in Gôtovany is one of the municipality’s most significant cultural and historical features, but it is not classified as a national cultural monument. In the Fiačice district of Gôtovany, there is a chapel in the municipal office building. The present-day municipality of Gôtovany and the Fiačice district originated as two independent municipalities; Fiačice was incorporated into Gôtovany in 1924.

Near Gôtovany lies the Havránok open-air archaeological site, featuring reconstructed Celtic buildings. During the summer season, demonstrations of sword fighting, Celtic rituals and various craft activities take place there. Also in the surrounding area, the tower of the former Church of the Virgin Mary houses an exhibition recalling the historical context of the reservoir.

Mlynica is also connected with the history of the region: in 1960, the furnishings of the former Protestant church in Mlynica were brought to a safe place in the municipality of Gôtovany when Mlynica fell victim to the construction of a dam in the Liptov region.

Community Life

Gôtovany Community Day 2025 was the ninth edition and included a raffle with more than 80 prizes. At this community day, three teams took part in a halušky-cooking competition. Gôtovany Community Day was announced for 22 August 2026; in 2025, it was held as the ninth edition.

The Mikuláš event included a Christmas market with hot punch and homemade cakes. At a Mikuláš event in Gôtovany, children from the local kindergarten put on a cultural programme for parents, senior citizens and other attendees. The event held as part of the Month of Respect for Older People is considered traditional and included a performance by children from the local kindergarten for senior citizens.

The Gôtovany community ball was held again as a convivial evening and featured a photo booth. The modernisation of the hall in the Gôtovany cultural centre is intended to increase comfort when holding cultural, social and community events.
