The first written mention of Hrad a Kaštieľ Liptovský Hrádok dates back to 1341, when the castle was mentioned under the name Wywar. The former moat is also part of the building’s history: it has survived to this day in the form of a pond.
Culture and history
Hrad a Kaštieľ Liptovský Hrádok was opened to the public in August 2010. The tour includes a walk through the Gothic castle and parts of the Renaissance manor house interior, accompanied by an expert guide. The Pamiatková zóna Liptovský Hrádok consists of two separate areas on Hradná and Pod lipami streets. On Pod lipami Street, the lime tree avenue is the dominant feature.
The historic sites also include the Kostol Navštívenia Panny Márie church. Following a major restoration phase, it retains historic furnishings and wall paintings. The painted passageway Maľovaným podchodom conveys another perspective on the past and the history of Liptovský Hrádok extending into the present through 44 graffiti paintings.
The Trasou pamätihodností route leads to 33 sites of tourist interest that are characteristic of Liptovský Hrádok.
