Every year, Raková hosts Palárikova Raková, a competition showcase for amateur theatre groups. Another cultural site is the Kostol Narodenia Panny Márie church in Raková. It is a neo-Gothic church built between 1870 and 1874 to a design by the architect J. Zítko. The altarpiece depicting the Nativity of the Virgin Mary was created by J. B. Klemens in 1879.

The Ján Palárik Memorial Room is located in the cultural centre building. The exhibition “JÁN PALÁRIK – ŽIVOT A DIELO” presents the life and work of the person after whom it is named. To visit the memorial room, an appointment must be arranged in advance with the Raková municipal office. The event, church and memorial room thus represent different cultural points of interest within the town.

Nature

The Veľký Polom nature reserve is located in the cadastral territory of Raková. The 1,067-metre-high summit of Veľký Polom is protected as a nature reserve on both sides of the border, with the fifth level of protection. The summit’s elevation, cross-border location and protection status are therefore clearly connected, without restricting the mountain to one side of the town.

The landscape also includes Medvedia skala. It is a preserved rock monolith approximately the size of a multi-storey house. This distinctive rock formation stands as an independent landscape feature alongside the protected summit of Veľký Polom.

Hiking and cycling trails

The Cyklotrasa vzájomnosti begins in the centre of Raková. It leads around Medvedia skala to the Tetřev viewpoint in the Czech Republic. The route thus connects the town centre, the rock monolith and a viewpoint across the border as part of a named cycling trail.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from Raková-Korcháňovci to Veľký Polom. It is approximately 5.4 km long and takes about two hours to walk. Access to Medvedia skala from Raková-Korcháň is considered easy and well marked. Both details relate to their respective trails and access routes: the hiking trail is defined by its colour, starting point, destination, approximate length and walking time, while access to Medvedia skala retains its described trail quality.
