Ski Makov in Makov has five easy to intermediate downhill runs at elevations of 660 to 948 m; together, they are 6,000 m long. For beginners, Ski Makov offers a ski school and a ski kindergarten. The facilities also include ski and snowboard rental as well as a ski service.
Winter and Trails
In addition to the downhill runs, the “Beskydsko-javornícka magistrála” is a 12 km-long ridge route along the border in the Javorníky Mountains. The Makov Centrum–Bumbálka route is 9 km long, marked as a green route and designed for mountain bikes; the difference in elevation is 450 m. The “Ku prameňu Kysuce” educational trail leads in Makov to a restored spring of the Kysuca, which has a rest area and four information boards. As a hike, this educational trail is easy, but it is characterized by a steeper ascent; it is 3 km long with a total elevation gain of 194 m.
Melocík can be reached by bus from Makov–Ústredie or from the Bytča bus station.
Nature
Makov has a hilly to mountainous landscape. Veľký Javorník is the highest point at 1,070 m. The Veľký Javorník National Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Makov in the Javorníky Mountains at an elevation of 1,071 m. Because of its preserved natural forest stands and its landscape and aesthetic values, the municipality belongs to the CHKO Kysuce Protected Landscape Area.
Another notable natural feature is the U Papaji elm in Makov. It is considered the oldest and most powerful European field elm and is almost 500 years old. The source of the Kysuca River is not accessible to visitors.
Culture and History
The “PORAZISKO” information board in Makov covers the local history in connection with the largest anti-Habsburg uprising in the former Kingdom of Hungary and the burial of fallen Kuruc soldiers at this site. Another historical landmark is the classicist “Kostol sv. Petra a Pavla” church, built in 1803.
When considering a ski hotel in Makov, you can first compare current offers according to their exact location and type of accommodation. Also pay attention to the intended occupancy, included services and individual price components. Before booking, it is worth checking the respective conditions for arrival and departure as well as cancellation or modification rules. The question of whether certain services are expressly included in the price or charged separately can also be clarified on the respective offer page. This keeps the differences between the individual options clear without assuming additional characteristics of an accommodation.
Makov therefore combines a specifically described winter sports offering, trails through the Javorníky Mountains, protected nature and historical landmarks. For your travel planning, check the current conditions of ski operations and transport connections.
