Winter activities

The winter sports offering in Oscadnica includes Snowparadise Veľká Rača Oščadnica. It connects the Dedovka, Marguška and Lalíky areas and has 14 km of ski slopes. Snowparadise Veľká Rača Oščadnica offers skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and ski touring. This clearly identifies both the spatial structure of the area and the winter sports mentioned there.

Nature and trails

Veľká Rača is the highest peak in the Kysuce region and part of a national nature reserve. A hiking route leads from Oščadnica-Dedovka via Veľká Rača; it is 7.2 km long, has an elevation gain of 594 m and is classified as moderately difficult. The route’s length, elevation gain and difficulty level give it a clearly defined profile.

The cycling connections are also associated with specific route details. The most important cycle path in Kysuce runs through Čadca, Skalité, Oščadnica, Krásno nad Kysucou, Stará Bystrica and Vychylovka and is 60 km long. Separate from this is local cycle route 2429, which connects the centre of Oščadnica with the Kaštieľ. The two routes are thus described according to their respective courses and their regional or local classification.

The educational trail “In the Footsteps of Robbers in the Borderlands” has five information boards in Oščadnica. Through thematic stations, it presents the subject of robbers and bandits. The Alpine coaster also has a fixed starting and finishing point: it begins next to the mountain station of the cable car in Dedovka and ends at the same place. It reaches speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Culture

The Kaštieľ in Oščadnica, together with the adjoining forest park, was declared a national cultural monument of the Slovak Republic in 1973. Oščadnica is also home to the Kysucká galéria, a regional gallery focusing on modern art. The Kysucká galéria currently manages more than 3,000 works of art.

Another historical landmark is the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. It was first mentioned in 1804. The Kysuce pilgrimage to the Calvary in Oščadnica is also one of the town’s recurring traditions: it has taken place for several decades on the Sunday after the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary on 15 August.
