Winter and Trails

The Javorníky ridge trail ends in Čadca and is approximately 64 kilometres long. The observation tower on Surovina offers views of the Oščadnica Valley, Krásno nad Kysucou and Čadca. A blue hiking trail runs directly by the tower and continues to Veľká Rača.

Visitors to the Múzeum kysuckej dediny can take a train ride along a preserved section of the historic switchback railway. The Korňanský oil spring is accessible by bus; the spring pool is approximately 300 metres from the road.

Klokočovské skálie is a geological rock outcrop in a rock escarpment approximately 300 metres long and 15 to 25 metres high, featuring spherical weathering. The site is accessible from Jarošovci via a marked trail; the visit takes approximately one hour. Klokočovské skálie is also a protected nature reserve where stone spheres occur. Megonky is a protected natural monument where stone spheres also occur.

Culture and History

The astronomical clock in Stará Bystrica is considered the largest wooden sculpture in Slovakia. Radoľa Manor House is the only surviving Renaissance residence of the minor nobility in the Kysuce region. It features permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as lectures and creative workshops.

The Kysucká galéria in Oščadnica is a regional gallery focused on presenting, researching and collecting modern art. Its collection includes works by artists from the Kysuce region and significant Slovak artists. The Horelický poklad exhibition presents a selection of 250 silver coins.

The Vlastivedné múzeum in Krásno nad Kysucou features a life-size replica of a female mammoth as its main attraction, based on fossil remains found nearby. A natural history exhibition presents specimens from the animal and plant life of north-western Slovakia. The permanent exhibition Otvorený depozitár displays collection items from the Kysucké múzeum covering archaeology, ethnography and history, as well as household life, textile fibre processing, wire craft, religious art, military affairs, furniture, notable figures from Kysuce and other crafts.

The exhibition on the history of Čadca and its surroundings allows visitors to search online databases for emigrants, their own ancestors and legionaries.

Events and Pilgrimage

At the Jánsky festival tradícií in Čadca, a traditional craft market and creative craft workshops were held on 22 June 2024. After the judging, visitors could taste goulash prepared by each participating competition team.

Živčáková is a Marian pilgrimage site with the Chrám Panny Márie Matky Cirkvi cathedral, springs and pilgrimages held annually in spring and autumn. The Palárikova Raková amateur theatre competition takes place in Raková every year.
