Telgárt combines Ski Telgárt with nature trails, railway structures, religious sites and regional traditions. The Ski Telgárt ski resort has nine downhill slopes and seven lifts at an altitude of 905 to 1,309 metres; together, the slopes have a total length of 6.5 kilometres. The resort also has a one-kilometre cross-country ski trail.

Nature
The Meandre Hrona Nature Reserve is managed by the Low Tatras National Park and is subject to the fourth level of protection. The Meandre Hrona educational trail is nine kilometres long and can be started in Telgárt near the Telgárt Hotel. Another educational trail to the source of the Hron begins at the Telgárt penzión railway stop and continues a few metres further to a seating area at the river’s source.
Telgárt lies between the Low Tatras, Slovak Paradise and Muránska planina national parks. A newly built cycle route connects Telgárt with Šumiac and is offered together with E-bike access to Kráľova hoľa.
Culture and Railways
The Telgártský Viaduct is 22 metres high and 86 metres long. The Chmarošský Viaduct consists of nine stone arches with a clear height of up to 18 metres and can be seen from the main road. Depo Café Telgárt is located in a historic railway carriage and offers a view of the Chmarošský Viaduct.
The Telgártska slučka includes a spiral tunnel with a curve radius of 400 metres and a length of 1,239 metres. A monument commemorating the Slovak National Uprising stands in Telgárt’s village square.
The Voglov chodník trail leads to the wooden cross on Ždiar above Telgárt. The highest wooden cross in Slovakia stands on Ždiar near Telgárt.
Traditions
The inhabitants of Telgárt continue to preserve old customs and traditions, as well as a folk costume that is still worn today. The polyphonic singing of the Horehronie region was added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2017 with the support of the municipalities of Vernár, Telgárt, Šumiac and Pohorelá.
Telgárt’s Chrám Najsvätejšej Trojice is a Baroque-Classical church dating from 1784. It is listed in the Central Register of the Slovak Monument Fund under number 84/1. The church in Telgárt helps preserve local traditions such as pilgrimages and religious festivals, which also attract visitors from the surrounding regions.
Telgárt has a fully functioning blacksmith’s workshop. During hands-on workshops, visitors can try blacksmithing for themselves. Telgárt Resort serves traditional dishes from the Horehronie region, such as halušky and Telgárt podpecníky, as well as the local beer “Telgartská 12”.
Telgárt’s Čučoriedkový deň features a baking competition for blueberry specialities, tastings of traditional and modern recipes, and demonstrations of dessert preparation. These include blueberry cakes, strudels and jams; music, children’s theatre and folklore are also part of the programme.
