Môlča lies in the northern part of the Zvolenská vrchovina uplands, in the valley of the Môlčiansky potok, which has the Malá Môlča tributary. To the east of the village lies a 2 km² karst island. Mariana adds another landscape feature: a short cave with three branches.
Nature
Mariana Cave lies in the Môlčianska Valley opposite the turn-off to Malá Môlča. Its entrance is on the left below a rock face, in an abandoned quarry. Next to Mariana, Na Drienku (Starý Drienok) represents a connection between mining and karst: it is an old mining site that partially transitions into karst formations. The Na Drienku (Starý Drienok) system is approximately 2 km long. Navigation is difficult, there is water in the system, and the entire mining system is unstable.
History
Môlča was founded around 1300 in the territory of Comes Miku, the son of Radun. The first written reference to the village dates from 1424; at that time, Môlča was called Mocha. Historic cellars are located in the village centre. The village bell tower of Môlča is also part of the village’s architectural and commemorative heritage. It is a masonry structure with a square floor plan and a pyramidal roof; a memorial plaque to the victims of the First World War is attached to it.
Routes
Cycle Route No. 2 runs from Banská Bystrica via Môlča and Horná Mičiná to Vlkanová and back to Banská Bystrica. Another route leads from the junction outside Šalková along the road to Môlča and continues from the village centre towards Horná Mičiná. This identifies both a connection with a return to Banská Bystrica and a route through the village centre and onwards towards Horná Mičiná.
Events
On 11 and 12 July 2026, the Central European Zone Autocross Championships took place in Môlča. The Slovak, Austrian and Hungarian Autocross Championships, as well as the Slovak-Hungarian Autocross Challenge, were also held there. At the autocross event in Môlča on these two days, 159 domestic and foreign drivers competed.
