Accommodation in Hiadeľ
Krumplovník, a traditional dish made from potatoes and flour, is one of Hiadeľ’s culinary specialties passed down through generations. It was already prepared by the great-grandparents of local residents. At the Hiadlovský Krumplovník community festival in the second half of September, the dish is baked and can be sampled.

Festivals and Customs
The annual cycle in Hiadeľ is shaped by community customs. The annual Hody na sv. Františka takes place on the Sunday closest to 4 October. A communal agape follows Holy Mass. Preserved Pentecost customs include putting up maypoles in front of houses; a decorated tree is also erected in the village square.
Carnival is also celebrated as a community event: Masked members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade and other volunteers walk through the village singing, accompanied by an accordion player. In the evening, there is a community disco. In Hiadeľ, International Firefighters’ Day is celebrated every year on 4 May with a programme specially designed for children and a firefighting competition in which teams from the surrounding municipalities take part.
Community and the Annual Cycle
The bonfire for St. John’s Eve takes place on the weekend after St. John’s Day. People gather around a large fire and celebrate the beginning of summer. At the beginning of December, St. Nicholas Day is held in the community centre together with a Christmas market. Activities for children include decorating gingerbread and making Christmas decorations.
The Christmas market combines these activities with homemade products: Scented candles, Christmas wreaths, Christmas ornaments and wooden products are available alongside festive refreshments. The selection includes gingerbread, sweets, and alcoholic or non-alcoholic punch.
History
Several sites and customs commemorate the history of Hiadeľ and its immediate surroundings. The local organisation of the Slovak Union of Anti-Fascist Fighters organises wreath-laying ceremonies every year on 24 March and 29 August at two memorial sites in Hiadeľ and its immediate surroundings. A plaque on a school building commemorates the fact that, during the Slovak National Uprising, it temporarily housed the partisan headquarters of A. S. Yegorov and a military field hospital.
In the vicinity of Hiadeľ, Moštenické hradisko is located on the summit of Hradište. Based on the pottery recovered during the investigation of the site and its surroundings, its origins are dated to the Late Bronze Age. In Hiadeľ, houses no. 104 and 110 are currently protected structures.
Culture
The DHZ Hiadeľ memorial room displays numerous awards, winner’s trophies, medals and diplomas. Firefighting protective clothing with a helmet and breathing apparatus is also on display. The traditional folk costume of Hiadeľ is also part of the region’s inherited culture; it belonged to the Central Slovak variant of the Detva–Podkonice type.
Another defining building is the Chapel of St. Francis. It is a late Neoclassical chapel built between 1847 and 1856. The chapel is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.
