The moderately difficult Weitblick hiking trail begins and ends in Herresbach: The 15.9-kilometre circular hike starts at the village square and leads, among other places, along the Eschbach stream and across meadows above the district of Eschbach. Herresbach is situated in the scenic Eifel, with hilly sections and viewpoints.

Hiking

The Weitblick hiking trail climbs towards Hohe Acht and the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower. From the section at the Kaiser Wilhelm Tower, there are views across the Eifel, Hunsrück and Westerwald. Parking is available for the tour at the village square next to the Schutzengel Chapel. As the signage may be incomplete in places, it is recommended that you download the GPX track and map in advance.

A shorter route is the Sonnen circular trail. It is about 6 kilometres long and begins and ends next to the Schutzengel Chapel at Herresbach village square. The route offers panoramic views across meadows, forests and fields in the Vordereifel cultural landscape and reaches the Geiersbusch juniper area. From there, there are views of Hochbermel, the Boos Eifel Tower, Hochkelberg and Nürburg.

The small wayside shrine in Herresbach offers a place for reflection and quiet contemplation. The Herresbach oak tree was considered to be several hundred years old, but was lost during Storm Kyrill in 2007. A shelter near the Herresbach oak tree offers views across wide fields and meadows.

Culture

The Schutzengel Chapel in Herresbach was built in 1843 from local quarry stone and is a protected cultural monument. Herresbach Chapel was blessed on 3 September 1848.

A pilgrimage tradition associated with the festivals of Lüfthildis and Valentin has been documented for Döttingen Chapel. It also preserves a Baroque altarpiece with the Madonna and Child in the central niche, as well as statues of the chapel's patron saints. The Döttingen dry maar is considered to be a former crater lake and is now a shallow depression.

Döttinger Höhe is a section of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
